OUR MISSION
Let’s Take Up Space!
Ghana Girls Connect Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that, exists to empower young women of the diaspora to pursue their creative passions. Through our workshops, training, and networking events we hope to give them the tools to turn these passions into sustainable careers. We also believe in building a social community/network.
We envision a world where… young girls are empowered to dream boldly & create fearlessly.
In today’s world, we’re witnessing an inspiring rise in diaspora women who are breaking barriers, pursuing their passions, and paving the way for others. Yet, we know there is still so much more to be done. By fostering a community that thrives on networking, resource-sharing, storytelling, and mentorship, we aim to bridge the gap for the next generation.
We believe that when young women are encouraged to embrace their creative passions, they become catalysts for change, innovation, and growth within their communities. Our mission is to nurture this potential, providing the support and opportunities needed to transform communities.
Our Pillars
-
We were built on the power of community. We create supportive networks where young women of the diaspora can connect, share experiences, and uplift each other.
-
Creativity is a driving force at Ghana Girls Connect, fueling innovation, self-expression, and personal growth. Creativity is not just about art or design, but about thinking outside the box, solving problems, and bringing new ideas to life. Our programs encourage young women to explore and embrace their creative passions, whether in the arts, entrepreneurship, or any other field. By providing platforms for creative expression and offering resources to develop their skills, we help young women turn their ideas into reality. We believe that creativity is a powerful tool for empowerment, enabling women to carve out their unique paths and make meaningful contributions to society.
-
Education is key to achieving empowerment and financial freedom. We focus on equipping young women with essential financial knowledge and skills, alongside professional and personal development. Our programs include workshops, seminars, and mentorships that promote financial literacy, empowering our demographic to achieve financial independence and make informed decisions for their future.
-
Health and well-being are crucial. We address key issues like mental health, period poverty, sexual assault, and breast cancer, promoting informed health choices and overall wellness. Our holistic approach ensures young women have the physical, mental, and emotional strength to thrive in all areas of life.
Cultural Immersion
We believe our culture plays a big part of our identity as individuals. Our culture does at times put pressure on us. However, it is not always negative pressure and finding that good balance is important. As Ghanaians we’re known to come from a background of people who saw themselves as kings and queens which we believe is very important. First of all, Christians call us to hold our heads up in any situation and remember that we’re royalty. There are many people back home who are surrounded by this culture but overlook its benefits. In the sameway, there are many individuals abroad who lost that connection with their culture in some way who don’t realize finding it is what will help them find themselves as well. There are so many programs we have and implement as we grow, so make sure you stay connected!
Bridgette Manful
Founder, President
Growing up as a first-generation Ghanaian girl in America, the expectations placed on me were immense. My parents wanted nothing less than success, but success, in their eyes, was narrowly defined. I’m sure many first-generation West Africans raised abroad can relate to the pressure to excel in traditional careers, often at the expense of our true passions.
I was always a passionate and strong-minded child, however choosing my path was and still is a struggle. It wasn’t until the passing of my beloved uncle that I began to truly understand the cost of conforming. His death was a catalyst that made me confront the tension between my love for my culture and the way it often suppresses creativity and unconventional careers. I realized that in trying to meet others’ expectations, I was losing touch with who I really was—my creative self.
When I stopped trying to fit into the mold of success that society and culture had shaped for me, I began to find myself. This journey of self-discovery inspired me to create Ghana Girls Connect, an organization that encourages young women to embrace their passions and break free from the mold.
This organization is not just a platform; it’s a love letter to my younger self and diaspora women everywhere embrace their creativity, pursue their passions, and define success on their own terms. I want to ensure that the next generation of young women doesn’t have to fight as hard to pursue their dreams.
